Mya Lee
Saved!
A few more days and this sweet girl
would have died.
Dogs we have shared our homes and
hearts with
This frightened little girl is Mya Lee.

She was rescued on December 15th, 2006.  Mya Lee is a little Chihuahua mix.  She
is severely underweight.  She was taken to a local emergency hospital with very
smelly greenish discharge from her vulva.  Mya Lee was diagnosed as having a
"pyometra" - a severe infection in her uterus.  Mya Lee also had 4 mammary
tumors and a heart murmur.  Even though she was weak from being so thin and
so sick, she was taken to emergency surgery.   Thankfully Mya Lee survived and
is now recovering from her surgery.  You can tell by her mammary glands and her
tummy that this little girl had many puppies in her life.

The surgery to help Mya cost over $900.00 and took over 2 hours two complete.
This little girl has a long road ahead of her.  We are very hopeful that she will have
a good life in someone's loving arms very soon!

Poor Mya Lee suffered from a serious and potentially fatal uterine infection, and
had many tumors on her chest for one reason only - because she was never
spayed.  If she had been spayed before her first heat cycle, the chances of her
having this painful and debilitating infection and breast cancer would have been
virtually zero!  Mya Lees life may have been cut short because she was not
spayed.

Mya Lee produced many puppies - in a country where 70,000 puppies and kittens
are born every day.  Every day, 10,000 babies are born here.  That means if EVERY
PERSON BORN THIS YEAR TOOK ONE PUPPY OR KITTEN BORN THIS YEAR,
THERE WOULD STILL BE 60,000 PUPPIES AND KITTENS WITH NO HOMES!
What happens to these "extra" puppies?  Some die of neglect and the elements.
Most end up in shelters where they are euthanised.  Killed because there are just
too many.

Please help!  If we could have explained to Mya Lee that there was a very good
chance that most of her babies would end up dying simply because they were
born, do you think she would have wanted that?

The problem starts and ends with us.  Please, spay and neuter your animals.  Mya
Lee was one of the lucky ones.  Her life was saved because of people who cared.
So many more do not make it.  So many more die.

This little girl only weighs about half of what she should.   She has no muscle
tone.  Her feet are splayed from nails so long they bent her toes up and back.

Mya Lee will be available for adoption once she has recovered from her surgery
and neglect.  She is so very frightened right now, and will need a lot of special
care to get her to trust humans again.   I know she will.

Mya is a mixed breed.   We think maybe Chihuahua and King Charles Cavalier or
Toy Spaniel?   We have had to shave most of her fur off of her body as she was
covered in the green pus leaking from her tiny body.   Please check back for
updates on this very special girl.
Update on Mya Lee - Sometimes the demons win...

It is with the saddest of hearts that I let you know Miss Mya Lee
has gone to the rainbow bridge.  As her broken physical body began
to heal, Mya's emotional scars did not.   She became more and
more withdrawn, and began to attack the people trying to help her.
Mya was so damaged that we could no longer get her out of her
crate.  She would attack the sides of her crate if any person or dog
happened to wander by.  She spent most of her days cowering in
fear - the rest sleeping.  At first she found comfort and safety in her
crate, but soon even that warm, safe haven could not keep the
demons at bay.  So many people wanted to help her - and so many
tried, and I thank you all for your efforts and the love you showed
for her.  We just could not let her suffer any longer for the sins of
the people who hurt her so.

Thanks to everyone who sent their prayers and donations to try and
help this little girl.  I take some comfort in knowing that even though
she may not have known it at the end, she did have many, many
people who loved her.  Thankfully, at the end, the arms that held her
and the voices she heard were those of people who loved her and
who cared.
