Bessie is only 5 years old. She had a large hernia in her groin. What the vets discovered when they
operated on her to fix it was shocking! There were stitches inside the hernia. The vets had never seen
anything like it before. We think that poor little Bessie probably had multiple "do-it-yourself" c-section,
sometimes called "Kitchen table" c-sections.
Puppy millers do not like to spend any money on the dogs - especially when they can do it themselves.
And the most important thing, the only thing Bessie was good for, was supplying puppies. So, if she had a
little trouble delivering, just tie Bessie down on the table and cut them out. No vet - vets cost money. No
anesthesia. No pain meds. If you can darn a sock, you can sew up an abdomen....so what if the intestines
fall out.
UPDATE: Bessie has a deep infection in the pad of her foot. This is common in mill dogs - there feet are
often splayed from walking on the wire of the cages, often cut and split by the wire. Add to that the fact
that the cages are not cleaned, and nutrition is not good. Often the infections are so bad that they require
surgery. We are currently trying antibiotics and foot soaks and hopefully we can help Bessie fight off her
infection. Please add Bessie to your prayers!

Below are pictures of some of the dogs rescued from a puppy mill. Just A Touch Rescue has committed to helping as many of these dogs as we can. Please read their stories below. We can only help as many of these precious babies as we have room and funds for. Please consider making a donation to help dogs like Helen and Bessie and the others below. All of these dogs are available for adoption!!!

HELEN (aka Piper)

3/22/08 UPDATE: It is with a very heavy and sad heart that we let you know that sweet Piper (Helen) has lost her fight
to survive. She became weaker and weaker. Her blood work showed that she was very anemic and her kidneys were
not functioning properly. More tests were done and we discovered she had a condition called non-regenerated IMHA
(her body was destroying its own blood cells and was not able to make new ones). Also, an ultrasound of her heart
showed that her heart was FULL of adult heart worms, one of the biggest loads the doctors had ever seen. This poor
baby didn't have a chance. After 5 years of torture, loneliness and abuse, she was finally free - but it was too late to
save this sweet soul. Letting her go was one of the hardest things we have ever done. She deserved a life outside of
the puppy mills. She deserved freedom. She deserved love. We are thankful that her life ended in the arms of people
that loved her. She stole the hearts of those who met her. Especially the heart of her foster mom Teri. No animal
should ever have to suffer what Piper (Helen) suffered. At least she knew love at the end - she did not die nameless
and alone. We loved you Piper...
3/19/08 - Helen - has a new name! Meet Piper! This tiny, emaciated, sick little girl is Piper. She is only 5 years old and is
blind. She is also heart worm positive and has a hernia (see Bessie's story below and the shocking information about
her hernia!).
Piper is blind because she has chronic dry eye, a condition easily treated with simple eye drops. Because she did not
get the care she needed, Piper can not see.
Piper weighs only 10 pounds! She is a Cocker Spaniel! She is only about 1/2 of the weight she should be.
Piper will need extensive heart worm treatment and surgery to fix her hernia. Please help us help the dogs!

HAPPY JACK
Happy Jack is a very happy little man. He loves everyone he meets and
wants to be held. He is one of the healthier little ones. He will be available
soon for adoption.
PIPPIN (aka TINY TIM)
Tiny Tim is a young little boy. There is something wrong with his front leg. He will be seeing a specialist once he
arrives here.
UPDATE: Pippin (aka Tiny Tim) has a badly broken leg. His radius and ulna - near his foot are both broken in
multiple places. The bones have begun to heal. We are trying a conservative approach - rather than bone grafts,
re-breaking his bones, plates and screws. The surgeons have cast his leg, and we will do multiple cast changes
over the next 4 to 8 weeks to see if we can get his leg to stabilize. More than likely Pippin's leg was caught in the
wire bottom of the rabbit hutch he spent his former life in. This little angel is only 1-2 years old - and is really starting
to enjoy his freedom and become a puppy for the first time! He is one happy playful pup!
BESSIE
MEMPHIS BELLE
Bing Crosby
LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE
Bing is a shy, sweet little boy that loves the company of
other dogs.
MAGGIE
Maggie is a 7 year old Spitz/Schnoodle mix. She is very sad right now. The only mom she knows
has passed away. Maggie needs some one-on-one attention and love to help her through her
grieving. She would do best in a home with no other dogs, or maybe one other dog. She likes other
dogs, but needs some attention of her own for a while. Maggie is house trained, crate trained, and
loves people! Maggie is spayed, up to date on her shots.
MUNCHKIN (aka AUSTIN)
Munchkin is a young sweet Japanese Chin. He came from a puppy mill. He is super
sweet and loves other dogs. Munchkin has been neutered and is up to date on his
shots. He loves people and is starting to relax and enjoy his freedom!
PEARL - ADOPTED
Pearl is a sweet little 1 year old Cocker Spaniel. She gets along
great with other dogs. Pearl has been spayed and is up to date on
her shots.
CASSIE-ADOPTED!
Cassie is a one year old Pomeranian puppy. She is very sweet, but very shy.
Cassie will be spayed soon, and then will be available for adoption.
UPDATE: Cassie was the one we thought would be the healthy one! Sadly this
puppy has tested positive for heart worm! She will begin treatment soon. We will
not spay her until her heart worm treatment is completed Once she is done with
her heart worm treatment and has been spayed, she will be available to go to her
forever home!
Cassie is super sweet, gentle, and very calm. She gets along great with the other
dogs, and is already starting to get pottying outside! She loves kids and although
she is shy, she is warming up more and more every day. Cassie cowers when you
go to pick her up, but she will come to you for pets and kisses!

This sweet little angel is only 3 to 4 years old. It will take some time, but her coat will come
back in with good nutrition and care. Poor Little Orphan Annie is sadly heart worm positive.
She will begin her treatment soon, and will be able to go to a forever home as soon as she is
done. Watch for updates and more pictures of this beautiful little Pomeranian sweetie!
